My uncle used to tell us a story how the american (ilco) engineers manage to put up a bridge over this river. It goes like this; To impress the filipino laborers of the superiority of americans, they took their transit and aim it at the opposite bank, then to the surface of the water below to determine how high the bank where to put the bridge. Then they started calculating and after half an hour and after verbal bantering they still can not arrive at the required length of lumber to support the bridge. Filipinos were shaking their heads in disbelief of how this little gadgets could determine the depth of the river below and why it took so many arguments. All of a sudden out of nowhere a simple carpenter approach the american and in halting english said, Sir if I may, to your pag bais-bais, I can tell how deep the bank is from the water if you allow to me check your numbers. Sir, all i need is your stop watch and a little piece of bato (rock). He stand at the edge of the river and drop the rock and at the same time started the stop watch and shut it off as soon as the rock hits the water. He gathered himself up and while chewing his betelnut, and before he announced his findings, he spit out a wad of red consumed tobacco and said, you're off by tres pies ( 3 ft)sir. How did you do that and telling my numbers were wrong. Sir, my arithmetic is better than yours because sir, I 'm using free falling bodies to determine heights. Plus I already know the depth of the water because sir, i used to take a bath there all the time, sir. "Nowadays we call it mathematics, which is an exact science to solve problems." How in hell that this guy knows free falling bodies. That carpenter was made a foreman as his reward. Does anybody out there heared this story?? Maybe there's more to it than said here!!!! Is there a moral lesson here???

  • Little Jungle Airsoft Gamesite, moonj11 wrote 16 years ago:
The Little Jungle was once allegedly marked as home to white monkey species. If the rumour was true, then this place must be kept preserved by the DENR, because this is the last remaining forest that is greedily destroyed by men with personal interest. Last time i passed, which was i think in 2008, there was already a truck garage built at the entrance of the forest. So bad, really bad the DENR are ignorant of the value of this mini-forest surrounded by agricultural lands. So I would like to call to DENR employees, please, preserve the place for future tourist attraction.
